Waterproof pants built for outdoor play

These overalls-style pants are made from a water-repellent membrane fabric with a soft fleece lining, keeping kids warm and dry through outdoor play in cold or wet weather.

Elastic-and-cord cuffs, reinforced knee panels, a reflective tape trim on the back leg, a drawstring waist, and fully adjustable elastic suspenders with triglide buckles round out the design. Sized from 18 months to 10 years (86–140 cm height).

What you'll need

Suggested fabrics

We recommend a membrane fabric for the outer shell — it's able to retain moisture, keeping kids dry in wet or snowy conditions.

Fleece is our go-to for the lining, though taffeta or another smooth lining works too, or a mix of both. Isosoft or Alpolux 100–150 g are good options for the insulation.

For the membrane, use thin, sharp Microtex needles with a special foot (a presser foot with a sliding sole), and very sharp pins — pinned only within the allowances, since pin marks can remain on the fabric.

  3. 12

Use the presser machine to install 2 eyelets on the allowance of the bottom where marked, for inserting a round elastic band.

  4. 13

Cut the desired length of the elastic band. Attach one edge of the elastic band to the side seam allowance. Pass the elastic band through the first eyelet, pass it through the retainer, thread it through the second eyelet and secure the end at the side seam allowance on the other side.
